nForce Chipset motherboards - conflicts with PCI Sound Card Game Port - UPDATE

Problem

Many customers are resorting to buying PCI sound cards when the Game Port Connectors for the Gigabyte motherboards are unavailable.

When a PCI Sound Card is installed on any nForce2/nForce3 chipset motherboards, there is a conflict on the game port which prevents game pads, joysticks, etc from being used.

Reason

This is a bug in the Nvidia chipsets.  So far, the issue remains unsolved by Nvidia’s.  Gigabyte has further contacted Nvidia for a formal document for the known issue, but the relevant document is not available.  According to Gigabyte’s bios engineers, almost all Nvidia’s chipset based motherboards (this included all brands of nForce2 and nForce3 series chipset motherboards) will have the similar issue.

We have tried different Aopen and Creative sound cards and none of them seem to work with the nForce2 and nForce 3 series motherboards.

Solution

There is no solution available.

This is a restriction on the Nvidia chipset and should not be used with PCI sound cards due to the conflict on the Game Port.

Products affected

All nForce 2 series motherboards

All nForce 3 series motherboards

used with any PCI sound card
