Setting up WDS on Gigabyte Broadband Router GN-B49G
Problem
Many customers are trying to setup up Wireless Distribution System (WDS) with the GN-B49G but cannot get the two routers to communicate with each other.
Reason
When setting up the WDS on this device, the MAC addresses printed on the underneath of the B49G are being used to setup the WDS function.
These Mac addresses are the incorrect ones to use.

These MAC addresses are for the LAN and the WAN ports only.
Solution
When setting up the B49G, the correct MAC Address needs to be found and used as follows…
Take into account the following setup
Please make sure of the following before you setup the WDS to prevent any unnecessary problems…
1. Disable any security and set the router security to open.
2. Disable the DHCP on both the routers.
3. This can be setup after the WDS is working on the bridge router only, but should only operate on one router and not both.
Makes sure that you assign static IP Addresses to each of the routers. Make sure that the IP address is outside the DHCP scope if you have an existing DHCP server on your network or if you plan to use DHCP later on.
4. Make sure that both GN-B49G devices are using the same RF Frequency preferably channel 6.
5. The Gigabyte Routers SSID is set to “Gigabyte” by default. To prevent confusion we recommend that you change the SSID’s so that the two routers can be easily identified.
Follow these procedures for setting up WDS
Login to the B49G Router 1.
Follow the same procedure for finding the MAC Address for B49G Router 2 and enter the MAC Address from B49G Router 2 into the WDS settings on B49G Router 1. This will allow the WDS to function properly.
