Problem
When setting up 2 ISDN PCI Cards for remote access, there is sometime no communication and the receving modem does not pick up the incoming connection or does not answer automatically.
Reason
The ISDN PCI Cards has been designed for internet communication and similar tasks and some tasks like remote communication and remote access between two PC's are not supported by the Capi 2.0 driver for the PCI ISDN cards since the cards do not detect incoming calls by default. The External ISDN TA's have this ability as it is built into the functions of the ISDN TA's itself through the features allocated through the Serial Port. The internal PCI cards would need software to emulate a virtual Serial Port. There is a solution to this problem however but this requires the use of the bundled RVS Communication software to enable the use of the Virtual Serial Port.
Solution
Please follow these steps to enable communication between 2 PC's using two internal ISDN PCI Cards.
Hardware/Software Installation
- Install the ISDN PCI card into the PC
- Install the Drivers
- Install and setup the RVS Communication software making sure that it is set to use Euro ISDN
- Enter the details of the ISDN line
- Make sure that RVS software is enabled and running on startup. It should do so by default.
- After the hardware and software has been setup, follow this procedure for the Host and Client setup.
Host
- Right Click My Network Places and choose properties
- On the Left hand side pane chooser Create New Connection
- Click Next
- Network Connection Type Choose setup and advanced connection
- Advanced Connection Options Select Accept Incoming Connections
- Devices for Incoming Connections Select RVS ISDN. RVS ISDN Must be selected .
- Incoming VPN Connections Allow or disallow VPN connections (disallow if this is strictly a dial up from Client to Host)
- User Permission Add a User for this connection
- Network Software Make sure that Client for Microsoft Networks and TCP/IP are enabled
- Finish
Client
- Right Click My Network Places and choose properties
- On the Left hand side pane choose Create New Connection
- Click Next
- Network Connection Type choose Connect to Network at my workplace and Next
- Network Connection Choose Dial-up connection and Next
- Select Device Choose connecting device. Here you can choose the RVS ISDN or one of the ISDN lines.
- Connection Name Type a name for the connection
- Phone Number to dial Type the phone number of the Host PC
- Finish
Other prerequisites for this type of Connection is to make sure that the Host and Client form part of the same network with the same Workgroup Name. The Host PC should assign an IP address to the Client PC automatically (DHCP). |
